Summary

A NEW TRANSLATION BY MICHAEL MORPURGO, AUTHOR OF WAR HORSE

Meet the Little Prince, a young fellow who hails from a tiny, distant planet。 He loves to watch sunsets and look after his flower, to ask questions and to laugh。 And now here he is on Earth, appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the desert, looking for a friend。 The friend he finds is the narrator of this story – a pilot who has crash landed and is in grave danger of dying of thirst。

The Little Prince might be just a boy but he can help our pilot。 Because he understands the really important things in life – things like flowers, stars, a drink of water or laughing。 Many grown-ups have lost sight of what matters and children have to remember to be tolerant towards them。 But adult or child, very silly or very wise, this story is for you。

It has a great meaning and it's very short so a book that everyone should read at least once to give a different look to things。 It has a great meaning and it's very short so a book that everyone should read at least once to give a different look to things。 。。。more

This was the first book assigned for my college book club- it’s not really my thing since even as a child I didn’t really read children’s books so it was strange reverting back to that mindset。 That being said I did quite like it。 It was really sweet and heartwarming and surprisingly sad for a children’s story! But like… sad in a good way… it’s bittersweet and it teaches a difficult lesson in a beautiful way。 It centres around friendship and sacrifice and dependence and independence。 So if you’r This was the first book assigned for my college book club- it’s not really my thing since even as a child I didn’t really read children’s books so it was strange reverting back to that mindset。 That being said I did quite like it。 It was really sweet and heartwarming and surprisingly sad for a children’s story! This is written by the child within the author for the child within every one of us。 Love and hate how ending leaves a lot of different interpretations, with no single right interpretation。 Right from the first page, from the example of an elephant within a boa to the ending author tries to emphasize "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye。" This is written by the child within the author for the child within every one of us。 Love and hate how ending leaves a lot of different interpretations, with no single right interpretation。 Right from the first page, from the example of an elephant within a boa to the ending author tries to emphasize "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye。" 。。。more

Conclusion: too classic to criticize, and now for some criticismI thought I had read this book, I certainly new the first chapter by heart。 However, as I held my breath reading the last chapter, I clearly didn’t remember it。 The story is so classic and so absurd in the best kind of way。 There was one moment that left a sour taste in my mouth。 He was talking about all the kings of Earth and in parentheses he said we must not forget the Kings of Africa。 I suppose, if I acknowledge that the book wa Conclusion: too classic to criticize, and now for some criticismI thought I had read this book, I certainly new the first chapter by heart。 However, as I held my breath reading the last chapter, I clearly didn’t remember it。 The story is so classic and so absurd in the best kind of way。 There was one moment that left a sour taste in my mouth。 He was talking about all the kings of Earth and in parentheses he said we must not forget the Kings of Africa。 I suppose, if I acknowledge that the book was written in 1945, then the author’s stance that African royalty is equal to the rest of the world’s is actually impressively progressive。 However, calling them « les rois négres » didn’t feel much like a nod to Black Dignity。 Perhaps the subtleties of the French language are lost on me。 In any case, I can’t write a review for this book, it would just show that I’m a big person, who is too serious to understand。 Just remember to smell the flowers and invest in your friendships, otherwise you might as well be a mushroom。 My Favorite Quotes: « Quand on veut un mouton, c’est la preuve qu’on existe » « Mais ce n’est pas un homme, c’est un champignon ! » (man who doesn’t smell the flowers) « I’ll manquent des racines, ça les gêne beaucoup » (as explained by a flower)« Mais comme il n’existe point de marchands d’amis, les hommes n’ont plus d’amis » «  C’est bien d’avoir eu un ami, même si l’on va mourrir » 。。。more

Really liked this book。 It is really emotional and worth of reading。 It is full of metaphoric lines and has a lot of quotes that may change your perspective on life。 Because of the ending I think it is best for older kids and adults。 All in all, in this book, to me, the most interesting part was relationship between little prince and his Rose。 He was ready to give her all she needed, but she took his love for granted。 All of the planets in the book represent how nowadays people are lonely and ar Really liked this book。 It is really emotional and worth of reading。 It is full of metaphoric lines and has a lot of quotes that may change your perspective on life。 Because of the ending I think it is best for older kids and adults。 All in all, in this book, to me, the most interesting part was relationship between little prince and his Rose。 He was ready to give her all she needed, but she took his love for granted。 All of the planets in the book represent how nowadays people are lonely and are living in their own world。 。。。more

La primera vez que lo leí no me gustó mucho, pero la segunda si, la manera en que habla del mundo te hace reflexionar sobre tu vida y cómo la vives, siento que es un libro que todos deberíamos de leer。
